Two Fulani herdsmen have been arrested by the police in Delta State on charges of unlawful possession of AK47 rifles.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state command, Celestina
Kalu, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday in Asaba, said the herdsmen
were arrested at Aboh, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state
with the rifles and magazines containing 30 rounds of live ammunition.
She said the suspects, Usman Hallin and Idih Adamu, were riding on a
blue Qlink motorcycle, marked NSK 136 QB, when they were apprehended by
the police at Setraco Junction, Askaka–Aboh road.
In a similar development, the PPRO said the Police patrol team
attached to ‘A’ Division, Warri, while on township patrol along Okpe
Street, off Iyara Road, Warri, ran into a group of suspected cultists.
“On sighting the policemen, the said suspected cultists took to their
heels and abandoned one black bag containing one locally made pistol,
two daggers, mask-cap and one torch and escaped to unknown destination,”
she said.
In yet another case of the arrest of armed robbery suspects, Kalu
said operatives attached to Dragon Patrol Team 03, while on patrol along
Benin/Asaba Expressway, intercepted a gang of suspected armed robbers,
operating at JOC filling station, Umunede.
“The hoodlums, on sighting the policemen, opened fire on them, and in
the ensuing gun duel, one of the criminals, identified as Junior
Ocheonye, 20, was shot and arrested while others escaped into the bush.
“Items recovered from the hoodlums include one locally made double
barrel pistol with a live cartridge, one Tecno D5 Android phone without
battery; one Nokia Navigator Symbian phone; a bag containing two wallets
with one US dollar; and one suspected fake N1,000 note,” Kalu added.
