The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has urged Local
Government workers to demand for their entitlements and salaries from
Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The party said the bogus debt figures the Governor was reeling out
to council workers were “fabrications to create alibi for failure to
pay their salaries and entitlements.”
The APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, challenged the
governor to defend allegations that he ordered each of the local
governments to deposit N750,000 every month in an alleged secret
Sterling Bank account in which he (Fayose) is alleged to be the sole
signatory.
Olatunbosun said, “APC is aware of the marble supply contract worth
N100m to upgrade the new Government House the governor had earlier
declared as too costly.
“The governor has not responded to the allegation that he sold 20
of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign buses in his care to Ekiti
State and donated 19 of them to the police which he listed as one of his
achievements in 100 days.
“APC is also aware that a contract of N23m for the decoration of
each of the 16 local governments’ headquarters across the state during
Christmas was allegedly given to the governor’s brother.
“This is different from the deduction of N26m from the Local
Government Joint Account without the concurrence of the council chairmen
for “security” even when the security vote for the governor’s personal
security has doubled but refused to fund all security agencies to secure
Ekiti people from criminals.
“We must insist that Fayose should account for all these funds
instead of creating the impression that Ekiti State is permanently
broke. He cannot sacrifice Ekiti people because he wants to pay the
debts he owed those who financed his election,” Olatubosun added.
But Fayose denied operating any secret account.
Reacting through his Special Assistant, Information, Mr. Lanre
Ogunsuyi, he said, “There is no such account and there is no such
instruction. The governor is not involved in spending their (LG)
earnings for them.
“The governor does not sweep the floor. There is a body charged
with that responsibility and it is only that body that can defend that.
If anyone has information that the money spent by the body was
outrageous, we would be willing to act on that information.
“If anyone is sure of that information, he should submit a petition
to the office of the Auditor General. We want people to know how their
money is being spent.”
Ogunsuyi also dismissed the allegation that N26m was deducted from
State and Local Government Joint Account solely by the Governor.
“The governor is not the Accountant or Auditor Generals of the
state, he has his own roles like the civil servants have theirs. He will
not just wake up and start spending money. The governor is an approving
authority and not the spending authority.”
Ogunsuyi said the APC was a busybody by alleging that President
Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign vehicles were donated as part of the first
100 days achievements of Fayose.
“If Jonathan is not complaining, what is their own? The campaign
organisation has a Director General who should know where the vehicles
are. Were they there when the vehicles were given to the state?”
