Sharks Held By Sunshine

A disappointing Sharks FC were held to a 0-0 draw by Sunshine Stars in a Nigeria Professional Football League clash at the Liberation Stadium on Saturday.

 

Some wonderful goalkeeping from Isah Danladi also ensured that the Akure based team returned home with a point. Big defender Stephen Eze was also a pillar for Sunshine Stars.

The visitors went in search of an early goal, and they came close to finding one when Dayo Ojo unleashed a shot from the 35 metres, forcing a save from James Aiyeyeni.

Tunde Adeniji was unable to convert from close range in a bright opening 15 minutes for the Akure Gunners.

The Blue Angels managed to create their own chances as the half progressed, coming close to finding a way through when debutant Bode Daniel flicked his header to Ifeanyi Inyam, who couldn't test Isah. Daniel fired a shot too.

Ojo tried his luck from a long range shot after Aiyeyeni surprisingly failed to clear his lines convincingly, Danladi drew a big save against his former team.

Former Heartland and Shooting Stars defender Mutiu Adegoke almost made the breakthough shortly before the half-time interval with his free kick attempt from range, which once more needed the intervention of Aiyeyeni.

The two teams failed to convert chances that came their ways in a goalless first half at the Liberation Stadium.

New recruit Daniel missed a sitter in the 46th minute. A right wing cross fell to the path of the former Crown forward and he failed to score from close range.

Sharks continued to press the visiting team for the much needed goal in front of their fans.

Ibrahim Salawu blazed his effort wide despite good team play from Chima Akas, Joseph Nathaniel and Inyam.

The desperate Sharks were let down by the heavy downpour which started twenty minutes from time.

The chances dried up as the game entered the last ten minutes.

Despite the late incursions of the Blue Angels, it was a happy ending for the Akure Gunners, who got a positive result away from home.
